Transfer rumours involving Liverpool: Steven Gerrard may target two additional players in response to Mohamed Salah’s appeal

Liverpool transfer news: Jürgen Klopp has ruled out a move for a Barcelona star, but two more players may be desired in Saudi Arabia as Mohamed Salah approaches a decision.

Now that Liverpool is starting its winter break, the transfer rumours might start to pick up steam. Since the Reds won’t play until January 21st, Jürgen Klopp will have time to evaluate his team and think about adding any new players.

The manager of Liverpool has already hinted that it’s possible there won’t be any acquisitions made during the January transfer window. However, an increasing number of injuries may make him reconsider today.

The most recent name to be added to the list of people missing this week was Trent Alexander-Arnold. Despite Conor Bradley’s impressive performance against Fulham in Wednesday’s Carabao Cup semi-final, Liverpool’s defence is being overextended.

Though the Reds still need to add a few players, they are rumoured to be interested in selling Steven Gerrard and moving to Saudi Arabia. Mohamed Salah may be getting close to making a choice regarding his future, in relation to the Gulf state.

A Barcelona star who has been linked to Anfield recently has apparently been ruled out by Klopp. This is Liverpool.com’s assessment of the transfer rumours circulating about the Reds as of right now.

Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah,Joël Matip and Joe Gomez

Ben Jacobs (via Caught Offside) reports that Mohamed Salah is leaning towards signing a contract extension, which suggests that the Saudi Pro League may want two more Liverpool players. Al-Ettifaq and Steven Gerrard allegedly had a three-hour transfer discussion during which Joël Matip and Joe Gomez were discussed.

However, attempts to move Salah to the Middle East may not succeed. Football Transfers claims that the Egyptian is getting closer to signing a new deal with Liverpool.

According to Liverpool.com, Salah agreeing to a new contract would be extremely beneficial for Liverpool and would also be a direct message to Saudi Arabia. He still has a lot to offer Anfield, so in no way should he be thinking about moving to the Middle East just yet.

Regarding Matip and Gomez, it appears that the former will be leaving after his contract expires, so it wouldn’t be a huge surprise if he moved to Saudi Arabia. Gomez, however, is still only 26 years old, so even if he did choose to go to pursue more playing time, he would undoubtedly be able to find a respectable Premier League team.

Barcelona’s Raphinha

Despite recent suggestions linking the Barcelona winger with a move to Anfield, it is doubtful that Liverpool will make a move for Raphinha. El Nacional has refuted rumours that the Reds are preparing a move.

According to the Spanish newspaper, Klopp does not think the Brazilian can significantly advance his goals or raise the calibre of Liverpool’s current offensive alternatives.

Liverpool.com states: Klopp is entirely correct if that is his belief. Raphinha wouldn’t be a better forward option than any of Liverpool’s current alternatives, particularly not Salah.

He would also be older than the other choices—aside from the Egyptian—at 27. Raphinha didn’t seem like a great option anymore, even though he would have been an interesting decision at Leeds.
