The Barclays Women’s Super League Manager of the Month for December is Matt Beard.
WSL Manager of the Month for December goes to Matt Beard.
After leading his team to an undefeated month in the tournament, the Liverpool FC Women manager takes home the award for the first time this year.
After a goalless draw at home against Bristol City, the Reds overcame their rivals Manchester United 2-1 on the road.
Beard won the December award ahead of Manchester City head coach Gareth Taylor.
Beard said to Liverpoolfc.com about the prize and the month as a whole: “I think the way we finished the month was fantastic.”
“Obviously, we drew with Bristol City at home, and then crushed Everton in the Continental Cup. This year’s participation in that tournament was difficult for us, but I believe we made excellent use of it to develop younger players and give them more playing time.
“And defeating Manchester United at Leigh Sports Village was the cherry on top.
“For us right now, consistency is crucial. There have been numerous instances where we have performed exceptionally well, as well as instances where we have struggled for ninety minutes.
“However, I believe the global programme had a significant influence on that—not just for us, but for other parties as well.
“Now we want to start 2024 well beginning with the FA Cup, a competition we’d love the opportunity to progress in and then we’ve got a tough month with the league fixtures too.”
Beard thanked the supporters who cast their votes for the winner and acknowledged his backstage crew, stating that they had been crucial to the process.
“I know it’s a cliché, but you can’t do the work without your team, and I’m blessed with the team that I’ve got,” Beard said.
“Not only are they great people but they’re specialists in their own area and they are the driving force behind what we do.”
