Tennessee Football Lands Commitment From Four-Star Offensive Tackle Over SEC Rival | Rocky Top

Tennessee football’s summer recruiting tear doesn’t appear to be slowing down anytime soon.

J.B. Shabazz, an offensive tackle out of North Carolina, is the latest to join the class. Out of Kernersville, North Carolina, the 6-foot-6 lineman helps continue the pipeline to Knoxville from the Tar Heel State.

In this 2026 cycle, he joins five-star quarterback Faizon Brandon as representatives from the state. In the 2025 class, the Vols landed five-star offensive lineman David Sanders Jr., four-star defensive lineman Isaiah Campbell and three-star defensive lineman Charles House from North Carolina.

Shabazz picked Tennessee over South Carolina and Ohio State. Down the stretch, it seemed to be a fight between the SEC squads, with predictions coming in for both sides from recruiting experts. Ultimately, the Vols managed to reel him in, though.

According to On3‘s rankings, Shabazz is ranked as high as the No. 56 player in the country as a four-star prospect. The site ranks him as the No. 6 offensive tackle and No. 7 player out of North Carolina in the class. 247, Rivals and ESPN all have Shabazz as a three-star recruit.

Shabazz took official visits to five schools this summer before narrowing the list down to three. He started at South Carolina on May 30 before heading to Penn State and NC State. Just the Gamecocks seemingly stayed in the race after this stretch.

On June 13, he made the visit to see Tennessee. He is being primarily recruited by offensive line coach Glen Elarbee with the Vols. He would round out his list of official visits at Ohio State on June 20.

This is now 21 commitments in the 2026 class for Tennessee. After the announcement, the class ranks as the No. 12 class in the country and No. 5 in the SEC behind Georgia, Texas A&M, Alabama and LSU, according to 247.

This is three offensive linemen in the boat for UT, as well. He joins five-star tackle Gabriel Osenda and three-star interior lineman Edward Baker.

Other targets soon to come off the board for Tennessee include another tackle prospect on Saturday. Jax Tanner, a three-star, will pick between the Vols, Boise State, BYU, Michigan and Oregon. On July 18, in-state defensive back Craig Tutt will make his decision with Tennessee in the mix.
